Christmas in January

January 24th, 2008 by Give Grace No Comments »

We are so excited to have received Christmas cards from our children in Uganda. They are so grateful for our work in their lives and eagerly told about all their activities going on. One of the things that caught my attention was the name of their house – Nkuumwa, which means protected. It is good that they now know what it is to be protected, and now can personalize the story of redemption - being “adopted” off the streets and cared for. Please stop by the Give Grace table at Encounter and take a look at the cards.

8 boxes. $5000. Christmas in February and May.

January 15th, 2008 by Give Grace No Comments »

Well — we’re back in full swing for the spring semester. The long overdue blog update has been on my to-do list, but today it’s happening.

Response. Overwhelming…at least to the checking account. To ship the gifts the gcm community gave for the children we sponsor in Uganda and China…would be a mere  $5000. Yikes.

We could build a well, buy medicine, pay for surgeries, sponsor more children…You get my point. That would be poor stewardship. So, what we did is mail the gifts for the Chinese children to our partners in Florida (way, way more reasonable shipping fees). In February, a few of us are  flying to Uganda.. and we’ll each be checking one bag, and one really large box full of gifts for the Ugandan children.  $200 in overweight baggage fees makes a LOT more sense.

In other news — this semester, we are going to begin adding new content to the give grace site, stay tuned. Also, as more people continue to give and share towards this common cause for good (a winning cause of Jesus) - then more resources will be aimed towards our efforts, in Auburn and around the world.

It’s going to be a great semester -

Matt
